Città di Castello is the capital of the Umbrian Valtiberina. Its location on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, set in the center of the Upper Tiber Valley, makes it a very important commercial, logistical and even before that, historical and cultural hub.
A border land rich in culture!
This territory arouses great interest in many ways, starting with its geographical location between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic Sea and crossroads of lands rich in history and traditions such as Tuscany, Marche, Romagna and Umbria.
A borderland, it presents a formidable meeting point between culture, art and traditions, offering an incredible variety of landscapes, enriched by a dense network of historical-architectural assets and natural wonders, which are accompanied by the richness of a typically Italian culture made up of ancient traditions, legends, festivals and popular festivals, and a cuisine that ranges from a Spartan simplicity to the exclusive delicacy of its truffles.
A distinction is usually made between the Tuscan Valtiberina and the Umbrian Valtiberina, by reason of a very long history involving Florence, Rome, Perugia and a succession of duchies all more than motivated to make this territory of innumerable riches and scenic beauty its own, which greatly inspired masters of the level of Piero della Francesca, Perugino and many others of whom we will discuss in future articles.
By Tuscan Valtiberina we mean that part of the territory of lower Tuscany located within the municipalities of:
Anghiari

Umbrian Valtiberina refers to that part of the territory of the province of Perugia located within the municipalities of:

Monte Santa Maria Tiberina
Montone
